Washed Out

Inkeeping with yesterdays electronic digression I present to you, Washed Out. Similarly synthy but more mellow and less filled with Bavarian angst. Washed out is the moniker that twentysomething Georgian (US)Ernest Green operates under. Having released a brace EPs highly feted in the blogosphere, Green has now signed to indie behemoth Sub Pop. They have recently been picked to play at ATP which is being curated by art rockers Battles, in Minehead this summer. Should be a ball if the sun shines..
Their major label debut, Within and Without, is leaking now and it's a great example of the chillwave genre. Or hypnagogic pop (yes, really), if you prefer. The term refers to the state between wakefulness and sleep, a feeling reflected in this genres shoegazey, ambient soundscapes.
Their peculiarly appropriate name conjures images of water and relaxation. The music does likewise. Perfect holidaying, kickback stuff. Warm, fuzzy hooks proliferate everywhere. Never becoming ruminative or melancholy just oozing a cool, beached contentment. It has an enveloping quality, the aural equivalent of a good hug and a cup of tea.
If I were one for exerting myself in a ravey environment this would be my comedown music of choice.Much in my collection is too cerebral and angsty to be of comfort when feeling like curling up in blissful oblivion, but this hits the spot. Put on some expensive headphones and dissolve
