These Pict miserablists have written an absolute cracker in EP opener ,'Scottish Winds', a proud and nationalistic ode to the title's inspiring zephyr. A fantastic gritty riff does its best to emulate this gale, rollicking around the baleful lyrics like a slamming shed door. Where Scott Hutchison's rasp implores all that is Scottish to come "burr into his veins," with the wild feel of a battlle cry.
I've already digressed at some length about my love of all that is Scottish when it comes to music, and how I dig it when their accent becomes, in itself, another piece of their musical arsenal. Hutchinson certainly does that here imprecating the 'fucking English'.
Don't worry lads, I don't take it personally, keep being angry, pissed and Scottish- it makes for some awesome and rousing music. Bravo.
A slightly less bellicose acoustic take below, yet I still don't think this guy's going to forget all that spilt Scottish blood he alludes to.
